Is there or is there not a «gay» theatre after all? And if there is, what differentiates it and why from the other theatre, the one who, after all, isn't «gay»? O escritor e performer Justin Bond e o pianista Kenny Mellman são famosos pela sua bem sucedida parceria como Kiki and Herb, sendo uma presença constante no circuito off-Broadway nova-iorquino, tendo já actuado no Porto, em Serralves. Esta diva de sessenta e poucos, auto-descrita como uma "boozy chanteuse", e o seu deprimido companheiro de piano fizeram carreira com os seus espectáculos dentro e fora dos palcos. Durante a sua tournée de 2004 em Londres, Mike Nicholls acompanha o duo aproveitando ao máximo para captar imagens da irascível Kiki. Esta criação ficcional recusa-se a abdicar de ser o centro das atenções onde quer que vá. Kiki e Herb vagueiam pelas ruas do West End londrino, gradualmente desiludidos após descobrirem que o local do concerto não é o ambicionado Palace Theatre, mas uma velha embarcação encalhada no rio Tamisa. Para compensar o seu desapontamento, a produção leva Kiki a passear. Frente ao Big Ben, ela afirma: "Pronto, são seis horas. E era necessário um relógio tão grande para me dizer que é happy hour?" Writer-performer Justin Bond and pianist Kenny Mellman are famous for their well-established collaboration as Kiki and Herb, having become ubiquitous on the New York off-Broadway performance circuit, and having already performed in Oporto at Serralves. This sixty-something, self-described "boozy chanteuse" and her doleful, piano-playing sidekick have made a career touring their act both on and off the stage. Following Kiki during her London engagement, director Mike Nicholls takes full advantage of his exclusive access to capture the irascible star "off camera." This fictional creation refuses to give up the spotlight anywhere she goes. Kiki and Herb bumble through the streets of London's West End, increasingly despondent after realizing their expected performance venue will not be the desired Palace Theatre, but rather a small boat sitting on the Thames. To pacify her disillusionment, Kiki is taken sightseeing. At Big Ben, she quips, "So it's six o'clock. Did I need a clock this big to tell me it's happy hour?" Even on a third-rate stage, Kiki delivers the over-the-top performance that has made her such a revered beacon of insanity.

Implicación é a primeira curta-metragem em 35mm do jovem realizador Julián Quintanilla, encenador de vários espectáculos teatrais em Espanha e que actualmente trabalha no Centro Dramático Nacional, em Madrid. Protagonizado por Loles Léon e Antonio Valero, Implicación relata-nos, em seis minutos, a história de Chary, uma mãe que enfrenta Don Francisco, o chefe do seu filho. No encontro entre ambas as personagens, Chary mostra a Don Francisco que a razão pela qual o seu filho foi despedido da empresa onde trabalhava é, nem mais nem menos, a latente homofobia que o chefe sentia por ele. Uma fulgurante estreia.

Implicación is the first 35mm short film of young Spanish director Julián Quintanilla, a stage director of many theatrical plays in Spain, now working at the Centro Dramatico Nacional, in Madrid. Staring Loles Léon and Antonio Valerio, Implicación tells us, in six minutes, the story of Chary, a mother who confronts Don Francisco, her son's employee. In the confrontation between both characters, Chary unveils us that the true reason by which her son was fired from the firm he worked in was no less than the latent homophobia that his chief felt towards her son. Two young drug-addicts wander the streets of Madrid as they recall their lives. Their former jobs, their relationships and affective commitments are the main topics of conversation. The surprising vocabulary they so well master gives a touch of humour to this otherwise sad story of two people condemned to a dependency on heroin. La China revels us a different facet of drug-addiction, a realist vision by which the characters do not want to blend with society. They only have each other, but that is enough for them. Até ao início deste ano de 2005, altura da sua morte, nos últimos tempos Rosario levava uma existência particular, já que debaixo da sua condição de transgénero, esconde-se um homem do campo capaz de dar sábios concelhos e ao qual ninguém resistia a dar uns minutos de conversa, quando se cruzavam com ela ao entardecer, sentada no seu pequeno trono de pedras, junto à estrada ao pé de casa. Este fabuloso e peculiar documentário narra a sua vida, desde as difíceis relações que manteve quando nova com a sociedade local, que não aceitava a sua condição sexual, até à exploração da sua faceta mais humana que a tornou numa verdadeira amiga das pessoas que tiveram a oportunidade de a conhecer e que não a descriminaram pela sua condição sexual e social. Rosario Miranda was a real life and peculiar character of the Canary Islands. He, a farmer, was since an early age very attached to his land, although having lived moments of glory outside the Canary Islands, as a transvestite. Until early this year of 2005, when Rosario passed away, for the past years she lived a peculiar existence, since beneath the farmer capable of the best advice on the duty and of whom no one resisted a few minutes of chatting when they ran into her on the little rock throne nearby the road, she used to sit in, late in the afternoon. This fabulous and peculiar documentary narrates her life, from the difficult relations as a young boy with society at large, until the revelation of her human facet which made her best friends with those who had the opportunity to know her e who did not discriminate her for her social and sexual condition. Through the story of Rosario Miranda, this documentary is an important remark on the marginalization that many suffer due to their sexuality.

O projecto de The Legacy of Cain nasceu há dois anos. O ponto de partida foi a novela Vénus in Fur de Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, que havia sido discutida durante um processo de trabalho anterior. As ideias iniciais foram-se alterando durante o projecto. Já não nos interessava seguir um guião ou storyboard, mas antes passávamos horas a discutir a evolução de cada cena e depois filmávamos cada take instintivamente de uma forma diferente do anterior. O filme narra a relação entre a personagem principal, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, e quatro mulheres: Wanda von Dunajev (a Venus in Fur), Anna Klauer (uma prostituta solteira), a Criada (quase uma figura materna), e a Condessa Aunt Xenobia (o primeiro impulso sexual). Haidée - ambos o delirante alter-ego da personagem principal e instigador da acção - acompanha o seu senhor até ao momento em que despertam a verdade mais profunda de cada uma das personagens. The Legacy of Cain is a project that was born two years ago. The starting point was the novel Venus in Fur by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch which had been discussed during the editing of a previous piece of work. The initial ideas were transformed during the five week project. It no longer meant following a film script or a storyboard but we simply spent hours discussing the evolution of each scene and then filmed each take in a different way to the previous one in an instinctive manner. The film narrates the relationship between the leading character, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, and four women: Wanda von Dunajev (the Venus in Fur), Anna Klauer (a single prostitute), the Maid (almost a mother figure), and the Countess Aunt Xenobia (the first sexual impulse). Haidée - both the leading character's delirious alter ego and instigator of events - accompanies his host until he awakens the deepest truth of each one of the characters. Haidée's dream reveals the characters' truths, lies, memories, projections, fears and sufferings in a context which is more emotional than narrative. - The directors
