R.E.M. e Michael Stipe

Todo mundo já sabia, mas agora é oficial. Michael Stipe, vocalista do REM, declarou a revista Time (15 Maio 2001) que é um "queer artist" e que tem um relacionamento com um "homem fantástico" há 3 anos, que segundo ele não é uma celebridade. Stipe disse que tinha chegado a altura certa para se assumir. Pressionado por repórteres e rumores sobre sua homossexualidade, já havia em ocasiões anteriores declarado não se considerar "nem hetero, nem gay nem bissexual" e ter tido relações com homens e mulheres.
