Nasceu em 2 de Novembro de 1961 em Edmonton, Canadá. Tendo começado carreira como cantora Country, alterou a sua orientação musical e dedicou-se a um pop com o album ingenue simultaneamente com uma bombástica declaração na revista Advocate que era lésbica.
