"FLAMENCO QUEER" was born in October 2019, the result of the union of the Badalona dancer Rubén Heras (March 1997) and the London guitarist Jero Férec (May 1993).
The project arises through a series of experimental nights, in the purest tablao-queer style at Bar La Federica, headquarters of the queer scene in the Poble-Sec neighborhood, Barcelona, where they continue to perform every month.
Flamenco Queer proposes a traditional flamenco that starts from identity and claims inclusivity in flamenco, always remembering the confluence of the queer, transvestite and flamenco community that took place in the Raval and Poble-Sec neighborhoods at the beginning of the 20th century. The project proposes a base of principles in its work, always claiming the need to create safe and inclusive spaces where flamenco can be created and enjoyed. Always seeking intersectional representation among artists, with the aim of giving visibility to the queer presence and contribution in all aspects of flamenco culture, both current and historical.
