Todo mundo j� sabia, mas agora � oficial. Michael Stipe, vocalista do REM, declarou a revista Time (15 Maio 2001) que � um "queer artist" e que tem um relacionamento com um "homem fant�stico" h� 3 anos, que segundo ele n�o � uma celebridade. Stipe disse que tinha chegado a altura certa para se assumir. Pressionado por rep�rteres e rumores sobre sua homossexualidade, j� havia em ocasi�es anteriores declarado n�o se considerar "nem hetero, nem gay nem bissexual" e ter tido rela��es com homens e mulheres.
